How To Survive a Ratchet New Years Eve!!!

Well, I've been hiatus for awhile but like I promised it would be worth the wait. I finally bellied up and took my work to YouTube. With the AWESOME help of my longtime and dear friend Fain who is also on the Tube (AFaintasticLife) I made it. Since New Years is my ALL TIME favorite holiday it only made sense to dedicate the video to it and its must-haves!

From hair to party gear all the way to TB&T (watch the video to hear about that) I go over a few simple tips to bring in 2014 like no other! Once again I owe much credit to Faintastic Productions for taping and editing because he made my first YouTube welcome video MORE than I expected!

So check it out below, thumbs up, subscribe and comment! I love feedback and chatting with you all :)

Until then,

YouTube Here I Come???

As I get more and more into my crafts I have straddled the fence of YouTube. To video myself or not? That is the question. I've tried it and made a fool of myself but maybe now is the time! With the help of a former classmate/long time friend/the guy I made a marriage deal with so future husband if you ask him, I think I've got the guts to just do it! Okay, I lie. He pretty much strong handed me with social media...

So here I am, preparing myself for it. Lots of questions and decisions go into a ladies' first YouTube video unless you're twerking. Sadly, the Lord did not bless me with twerking supplies (a butt). So, I'm excited and ready to start planning what my "official" video will be about. I'm also grateful to have an AWESOME YouTube veteran helping me make the jump. If you haven't checked out WhatTheFain 's channel on YouTube, DO & SUBSCRIBE. I can almost promise there's a video you can relate to and laugh with.

Until then, stay tuned for my next post which includes burlap and lace. Ooh la la!

Lunch Break Scarf

So quick little post of a small project I did during my lunch break at work. Yes, I do crafts at work on breaks. I came across a tutoial on YouTube on how to finger knit. For those of you who don't know it's pretty much knitting without the tools! All you need is yarn and some phalanges (fingers for those who of you who didn't pay attention in anatomy).

It doesn't matter what type of yarn you use. I chose a thick rope-like bundle as a personal choice.I bought two bundles because in the video she states the more pieces of yarns you use the thicker your scarf will be. For my next one I think I may up my count to three!   In case some of you are wondering what kind of yarn I used in mine....

Well, as much as I would loved to go step-by-step on this easy DIY there are plenty of videos to follow. Since I'm having London withdrawals I figured I'd pick me a nice Brit because who could get tired of that accent?!

Tissue Papered Mini Bar

Hello again! So I'm back after a little time off. As I mentioned in my first post I work for an event company so we've had TWO events back to back. Now we're preparing for another coming up soon so not much free time these days. HOWEVER, I've been a little busy bee crafter and have made some serious improvement in the "DIY World."

Yesterday I posted my recent project on Instagram and it didn't take long for it to blow up as a favorite! With much researching from other tutorials I present to you all my
                                                            Tissue Papered Mini Bar!

This all started with me completely revamping my new place. I just moved into my new New York style apartment in the heart of Five Points in Birmingham. This is my first place with no roommates so I had every intention to go crazy with it. Each room has a theme and you all will learn my kitchen is the "Anything Goes," room. If I find a crazy furniture piece or weird art it's going in there somewhere. With that being said, I've been patiently thrifting around for something to turn into a mini bar. When you move out on your own you somewhat become a hostess to anyone! So, why not make a fun eye candy for your guest?

The first step was the bar. This was the hardest part for me. I hadn't had much luck witht he thrift stores and Target had an awesome one that was half off $100 :( Which $50 isn't THAT terrible but still wasn't what I wanted to spend. Fast forward to two weeks later a co-worker is moving and selling EVERYTHING in her house. JACKPOT!

She had two really nice mini bookshelfs that were still in pretty good condition so I gave her $25 for one and was on my way! This project calls for:

  • Furniture
  •  Mod Podge (Gloss)
  •  Sponge Brushes
  • Tissue Paper (I bought 4 packs only realizing after I needed 1. They were only $2 so I'll return the others!

  •

    1. Find a pattern that is semi busy or a solid. The tissue paper or napkins (which can also be used. Use one layer of by the way) will rip and tear from the Mod Podge. Once it dries you won't be able to tell, especially with a busy pattern like leopard.

    2. Before you do your first layer of Mod Podge make sure there's no dust or anything that may get stuck under it. There's going to be a few bubbles and ripples so the less the better.

    3. Now I did the sides first so I measured how long and wide of pieces I would need. It's not a serious deal if it isn't perfect. I promise! Now Mod Podge that baby down!

    4. Now that we got that first layer down, you're pretty much a professional. Keep it moving to other areas. Let it dry and go back all over it again with Mod Podge so we can make sure all of the edges are sealed. DON'T CUT CORNERS! Squeeze into the ridges if you some, it will make your final product look even more store bought!

See I wouldn't steer you the wrong way, look how good that Mod Podge Gloss looks!

    5. Now if you want you can add some lights for a night party. And gradually add any bar items and alcohol you get overtime!

    Scotch Nails

After doing this post I questioned why I didn't include nail polish in my blog name considering I'm OBSESSED with them. I literally change colors every week and people at work know to come to me for a polish touch up. Today during my lunch break I decided to do something different. I'm not too experienced with designs although I LOVE them.

For one of my first attempts I figured I'd try something simple. SCOTCH NAILS!!!

Yeah, I'm not sure if that's the actual name but Scoth Tape being my co-partner seemed right. So let's begin...

    Nail Polishes:
    • Wet Seal Venice Pink (Made up the name since there was none, becoming a habit)
    • Salley Hansen Stocking Nude
    • Salley Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat

Apply 2-3 coats of the Venice Pink, I did 3 coats because it was still a little transparent. Then let it dry!

    ..........falalalalala...........

      I LOVE this pink.

Once it's dry, Scotch tape time. Take a strip of the tape and rip it into your preference of how many lines you'd like. I did 3 semi-skinny strips. Then you place them WHEREVER. Best part about this is there is no wrong way to do it. It's abstract nail art! (TIP: Try not to cover too much of an area with the tape. You'll have large awkward gaps of pink. Not cute)

Now just go back and paint over the nail with the Stocking Nude.

      Voila!

Looks orange out in the sunlight but not too shabby for my first time!

Good luck and if you have any tips to make this easier COMMENT below. I'm thinking actual REAL nail polish tape next time but hey, what are you gonna do!

    Grandma's Closet OOTD

Fashion as most of us know is one big revolving circle. What was cool back in the day is cool again now! With that being said, I decided to go ahead and post my, "Outfit of the Day (OOTD)". As I stated before I'm a Fashionista In Training so I'm learning what's trendy and what's not (bare with me).

I wasn't planning on doing a fashion piece so soon but realized I shouldn't let a good outfit go to waste. Much gratitude to my co-worker Rebekah for taking these photos last minute. I promise I have a REAL camera at home for future posts!

Blouse : Grams's. Found it digging away in her Narnia closet. I knew it'd be a great eye grabbing piece that NOBODY my age would have. I just cut out the shoulder pads which I tried to make work (obviously didn't) and voila!

    Pants : Charlotte Russe Spring 2013. $24

Shoes : Gram's. That dang Narnia closet I tell ya.

Watch : Betsy Johnson. Sorry it's not up close. It's a gold band with leopard as the background. (A gift so not sure of price)

Necklace : Forever 21. $12.50 Ya'll will learn I'm also in love with anything tribal related

(Grass was muddy which explains the committment to the sewer drain)

Well that's it for today! I hope I didn't completely butcher my first "fashion" post. Leave comments!
